PRIVACY POLICY

Branch Banking and Trust Company (“BB&T”) as Trustee (the “Trustee”) of the John B. and Brownie Young Scholarship Trust (the “Young Scholarship Trust” or “Trust”) collects and maintains personal information from applicants necessary for the determination of an applicant’s eligibility for a scholarship award and the amount of any potential award.  The administration of the Young Scholarship Trust program requires that such personal information be made available to certain parties in order to accomplish the Trust’s purposes, the determination of the proper amount of scholarship awards, and to assist scholarship recipients in the administration of their scholarship award.  Such third parties who may have access to the submitted personal information of an applicant are the scholarship program administrator and the selected colleges and universities of such applicant.  The Young Scholarship Trust will not use any personal information submitted for marketing, soliciting or other commercial purposes.  Moreover, the Young Scholarship Trust will not sell or otherwise market any list, database or other personally identifiable information submitted by an applicant to any third party advertisers without such applicant’s prior approval.  The Young Scholarship Trust stores the information submitted by applicants and scholarship recipients for the purpose of determining eligibility and scholarship amounts for scholarship renewals.  The Young Scholarship Trust utilizes reasonable efforts to protect the information submitted by scholarship applicants, whether via this website or otherwise; however, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of storage is 100% secure.  Therefore, while the Trust strives to use commercially acceptable means to protect an applicant’s personal information, the Trust cannot guarantee its absolute security.  The Trustee EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY LIABILITY FOR ANY DISCLOSURE OR ACCESS TO APPLICANT INFORMATION WHICH IS NOT THE RESULT OF AN INTENTIONAL ACT OF THE TRUSTEEFurthermore, the Trustee reserves the right to disclose personally identifiable information as required by law and when the Trustee believes that disclosure is necessary to protect the Trustee’s and/or the Trust’s rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process. 

An applicant’s submission of an application for a Young Scholarship Trust scholarship shall be deemed an acknowledgement and acquiescence to the terms of this privacy policy. 

The Trustee and the Trust reserve the right to modify this privacy statement at any time.  If the Trustee decides to change the Trust’s privacy policy, the Trust will post those changes on this website, and, if necessary, will notify applicants.
